From a residents' family - Whorlton Grange

"Everyone is really well looked after. There is a homely atmosphere and the staff don't treat it as just a job - they really care." - Linda Dixon

The family of 97-year-old Lilian Small say moving her to Whorlton Grange will help prolong her quality of life.

The future was looking bleak for Lilian when she broke her hip earlier in 2010. Due to her reduced mobility her son, also a pensioner, was no longer able to provide her with the care she needed so her family began looking for a residential care home.

Lilian's niece Linda Dixon had heard positive things about Whorlton Grange, which is owned by Wellburn Care Homes, and she was particularly impressed when she visited one evening to find that the vast majority of the residents had still not gone to their rooms.

Linda says: "I had visited another home before Wellburn and when I went to this at 7pm I had to ask where all the residents were, and they told me they were all in their rooms."

"I couldn't believe it but when I went at the same time of night to Whorlton nearly all the residents were still in the lounge and there was no sign of anyone getting ready to go to bed, which is how it should be."

"Lilian moved into the home in May 2010 and it has had a very positive impact on her, so much so we think it will help her to live longer."

"Everyone is really well looked after, there is a real homely atmosphere and the staff don't treat it as just a job – they really care."

"The activities they provide for the residents are amazing. I went one day and Lilian was singing and I had never previously heard her do this in my life."
